Did Valve just acknowledged Xash in a random tweet?

RT @CounterStrike
Here’s a fun look at lighting across CS 1.6 (with ray tracing), CS:GO, and Counter-Strike

@a1ba so close... just please Valve, GPL your mess already!

@eukara or just let the modders took everything into their hands with existing tools, i.e. change HLSDK license. :)

@eukara I'm emailing them once in a year asking to change HLSDK license because there is a whole infrastructure of mods that can't exist because HLSDK have the line about using this code only in "Half-Life Engine".

(I think it's obvious that I haven't gotten any response)

@a1ba Considering that half their GoldSrc games are utterly broken and they won’t even fix Source Base 2013 bugs that will turn 10 years old this year I will not hold my breath.

Rant: When I worked on OP4 CTF earlier this week and tried to see how the items exactly worked, and noticed that some items (such as the longjump) just DONT WORK, I checked in with @Xylemon who just straight up told me “YES. It’s been like this for years Did you not know?”. Well, I noticed the memory leaks, sure - but it is clear that no quality assurance has been performed in well over a decade. Nobody in Washington seems to know, or care. There’s people WILLING to fix this for them, so I’d wish they just GPLd it all and would merge pull requests for all their games. Let the community do the work just like it already does in all of their other games. That’s the bread and butter for TF2, Dota 2 and CS:GO - yeah? Maybe just let us keep your games alive, since nobody there is motivated to.

Rant over.

@eukara @Xylemon to support your rant: people are desperate to fix Valve games for them, and that always been like this. They are even resorting to using leaked sources (like TF2 guys do), not because they want to steal something, but because they're just fixing their favorite games.

GoldSrc is the worst case. I understand it's 25 years old game engine but then just open-source it. id Software has been doing this and nobody has died. There are NO secrets in this game engine anymore, since they ported it to Linux and published unstripped binaries. They're not encrypting binaries. I would even tell ya that GoldSrc VAC just probably doesn't even exist anymore.

Bugtracker on GitHub is dead since Alfred left Valve and Mikela stopped supporting GoldSrc too. As far as I know, they don't even care about security vulnerabilities in GoldSrc. If you open the bugtracker, the latest issue would be a report about possible memory corruption.

And open SteamDB: there are people still playing it every day.
