This is very nice.
And very funny, cause in the past days, I have also rewritten i18n for redaktor.
Also JSON/CLDR/ICU, see dojo.io/learn/i18n/introductio

However, what I found most distracting was the german language and some other gendered language.
My main problem is that I can use ICU at runtime but not to format existing nls terms …

My main problem was gender and so I began to write a thing so that it declines nouns and adverbs.
The cases in german are pretty much. If you want to decline it Singular/Plural for 4 genders (incl. ambiguous), it would be 104 different cases (4x26 w. determined or und. or no article and the cases).

Just pushed what I did yet today, e.g. github.com/redaktor/widgets-pr
English is much more easy and also nearly ready.

And then it adapts if e.g. the actor is a single female or an ambiguous plural or whatever.
Don't know how complicated e.g. Russian is …

@sl007 btw Smithereen is translated into German, though I'm not sure how good that translation is: github.com/grishka/Smithereen/

Russian is a pain in the ass despite being my native language. It's one of the few languages in the world where people's names inflect. Also 1st person past verbs change suffixes depending on the gender of the actor. Also there are 3 plural forms... But I'm determined to make sure this thing feels polished.

@sl007 and an interesting observation: Russian seems to be an outlier in how computers are supposed to address people. Russian always uses the formal "Вы", but German uses the informal "du" (=="ты"), and so do Spanish ("tú") and Polish ("twoj").

;)
In Germany it changes time by time:
Prior to 2006 you would have written an addressing-“du” as “Du” – that felt half formal …

/ overflew de.json and looks very fine, just one questionable:

“hat auf deine Pinnwand geposted”

here 'auf' means the 'directly on the surface' and you can use it. But the meaning is more if you use a permanent pen for the pinboard (which would be rude), if you'd stick a post-it,
would be
“hat an deine Pinnwand geposted”

@grishka

Found another one:
"admin_signup_mode_invite": "Nur auf Einladung",
"admin_signup_mode_approval": "Durch Bewerbung (mit manueller Freigabe durch einen Administrator)",

for approval there is an equivalent for the first and it would be
“Nur auf Anfrage (mit manueller Freigabe durch einen Administrator)”

Your sentence can be used but it depends: “Bewerbung” is like a job application where you battle with others and have to “Advertise yourself”, I guess that matches in the sense of writing what you will post but the general words are
“Einladung” and
“Anfrage”
[like invitation/request]

@sl007 just to be clear, my level of German is "I know the pronunciation rules and about 30 words" :D

Yes. But the translation is superfine.
It is just very fine grain :)
