@Mastodon I'm not sure a default signup to their server is optimum, but they do need a simpler onboarding process, so maybe this is better than the apparent confusion that so many people apparently have.

I would prefer a "round-robin" type of sign-up where servers which meet a certain criteria so far as terms of service, age, and maybe even size, are rotated through a default, with the person having the option of selecting a different default at sign-up.
