@jomc Ya know what, let's give it a shot and throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Brad Root

@msullivan @jomc yeah I think it would be a mistake to not consider how much happiness the baby will experience during the descent with the bath water, and how much engagement will be generated from the audience watching the toss itself

@nasser @jomc it's an ugly baby that's ruining our lives by trying to always get our attention
Medium Endian

@jomc

Rairii

@jomc that upton sinclair quote comes to mind

Kye Fox

@jomc It might even be true but they're not the one to convince me.

Sanlear

@jomc Itโ€™s funny how often the topic is coming up of late.

Giorgio Maone

@jomc I'll throw the bathwater and eat the baby alive :)

Drew Naylor

@ma1 That's not Communism, that's just cannibalism.

Giorgio Maone

@jomc actually, personal information tracking is good for the end user because they will prefer seeing ads about things they're interested in, rather than generic ads, also i work for Shay D. Advertisement Corp.

@jomc I think algorithms could help users but the issue is most of the writers/owners of them don't see it as their primary goal.

@jomc Obivusly, platforms like twatter empower marginalised communities. Yeah, sure.

I can't belive how may people I've seen speaking of twatter as if it was some short of emancipation instrument dessigned for revolutionary activities.

It's rather a mass control tool. And now its CEO is Melon Musk. :blobcatglare:

@jomc no. Fedi is a cure because you shouldn't have a software keeping you in infinite loop of intrigue. Then giving you the responsibility to not use it. You know people, when your local timeline is not exciting enough to join the convo is an actual feature.

@jomc

Quick CEO-to-English for good measure: "empower users" -> "empower our bottom line"

"...oft misunderstood" -> "well understood by our marketing team, but you still persist on not surrendering your wallets and time to us."

"Let's not throw baby out ..." -> "We're aching to subdue you again."

KT, who's FINALLY at MFF,

@jomc I never thought leopards would surveil MY face...

@jomc

Itโ€™s funny, because youโ€™re both in my feed talking about the same topic Iโ€™m hearing about for the first time from opposite ends.

Sometimes social media doesnโ€™t suck.

@jomc it's all tape holding it together anyway, so we can staple some algorithms back on after starting over.

Cher Tailor

@jomc Algorithms seem to be the crutch corps lean on when they're bad at memes.
