Gregory's Server@ajroach42 that was my next question, so are you suggesting that I support my instance over the general mastodon. The only thing is that I chose my instance by hazard and mastodon by intention.
Now what would you suggest?

Lots of people support the development of the mastodon protocol. Maybe not enough, but a lot.
Fewer people support the individual instance administrators, who shoulder most of the burden of new users.
