@bouncepaw Hmm, your instance introduce itself as "hometown", version "1.0.6+3.5.2". I never seen it but internet says that it is just lightweight Mastodon fork. So I hope my instruction will work:
Go to https://merveilles.town/settings/preferences/other and change "Posting language" as you wish. Or try to find something like this, if my instruction doesn't work.

@bouncepaw By the way, if you want to see a post language you can just open post in browser and replace https://<instance>/<user>/<toot_id> to https://<instance>/api/v1/statuses/<toot_id> and then find the "language" field.

I think right post language matter because some clients may display it difficulty. Or doesn't display at all due to user preference. For example Mastodon Web shows a "Translate" button:
