@Wtebbens I'm less optimistic that this is driven by growing public awareness to be honest. I think the main reason for the bubble crashing is the recession. All these companies rely on ads and analytics as their primary source of revenue. As companies start tightening their belts, ad spending gets cut and all of a sudden the business model isn't viable anymore. @yogthos @Wtebbens There's also the possibily that ads are becomming less effective due to oversaturation and people having less money to spend. @moffintosh @Wtebbens for sure, the whole ad model is highly speculative, there is very little tangible evidence that online ads produce any meaningful results. As the economy cools and companies start losing revenue they start looking at what they can cut from their expenses, and ads are top of the list of expenses that don't produce any direct revenue. |
@yogthos Are we witnessing the beginning of the decline of #VentureCapitalism as a dream of getting rich through bigtech platform monopolies, #unicorns as the ultimate goal?
As awareness rises about the damaging effects of #BigTech the decentralised models are getting an influx of attention, users and funding. The latter more public and collective, reducing the need for #VC.
The beginning of the uptake of social networks based on public values.
