Also SimCopter had an easter egg in it that a programmer inserted without permission where on his birthday and on his boyfriend's birthday, the city would be full of men in swim trunks holding hands and making kissing noises. I remember there was a controversy about it at the time, they fired the programmer and released a patch you could download to get rid of it (which was pretty unusual at the time) :( https://lgbtqgamearchive.com/2015/08/31/gay-sims-easter-egg-and-controversy-in-simcopter/ Anyway, if the Cities: Skylines people ever did something like let you play entirely different games on a map of your city... I would give them all my money @darius somebody a while back proposed a city building game that pivoted hard into a survival horror at the halfway point, so the worse you were at building a safe, livable city the harder the game got. Personally, I’d love to see hybrid-game multiplayer, where one set of people is playing SimCity, and another set are in that city playing survival horror, and there’s like bunch of dating sims going on around them? @darius that programmer taught me my first year of grad school 😮 🎓 @darius they did quite the purge of that first print! I archived that version of the game here: https://archive.org/details/sim_copter_0077-000-0601-A for @coleoptera to write: http://mediacommons.org/imr/2017/04/14/simcopter @darius I've heard people say David S Gallant was the first person fired for making a video game, but honestly I think that title might belong to Jacques here. @hache lol I am familiar with David and also with video game history and that's a really silly claim @darius Literally every time there is news of some sort of civil unrest I think about how in SimCopter the way you solve riots is fly over the crowd and ask them politely to leave. ...or throw teargas I guess. That particular mechanic hasn't aged well @firewally I seem to recall you could also turn your fire hose (used to put out forest fires) on them @firewally did you ever have a city with a military base in it? You could land your copter in the base and get out and grab an Apache and then just blow up your city with missiles (or shoot down a UFO!) @darius Oh god, yes! The UFO! I remembered the train rescues but totally forgot about the UFO |
@darius oh shit
