A closed source game is okay if the binaries can explicitly be freely redistributed, but I'd prefer something that allows modification.

@ajroach42 ah, right, this is a project thing where you need examples from that area. tic80 ? (: No, that hasn't been in development for that long. There are loads of roguelikes and items people have already mentioned, I'm trying to think outside of those. |

I mean, I'd just write the guys and ask them. Honestly, I think this is the sort of thing you're actually looking for - something someone's spent a lot of time working on (it is their job - this odd little game about living in Finland around the ice age, or after...)
