Small #Smithereen update. As in VK, you can now specify your middle and maiden names, if any. Unlike VK, you can specify a maiden name regardless of your gender, because why not.

@grishka @dheadshot I second this request for it to be an open text field, if tinder can do it so can smithereen @liaizon @dheadshot this isn't displayed anywhere in the profile, it's only used to select strings (write on his/her wall) and inflect the name in Russian. Making it a text field would defeat this only purpose. @liaizon @dheadshot and I don't have it in Tinder 🤔 @grishka @dheadshot as someone who is Non Binary and specifically does not go by He nor She having a drop down between those is frustrating every time I come across one. I think at the very least you could select from the list at http://pronoun.is/ if a drop down seems entirely necessary to you. @liaizon @dheadshot there is a third option of "not specified" actually. But I might add something like "I identify as" when I'll be making profile fields. @liaizon @dheadshot also pronouns are English only — not very good for internationalization. For example I've yet to see a Russian person who would prefer a non-standard pronoun. @grishka @dheadshot was just in Berlin for most of last year and many of the people I was spending time with there were using alternative pronouns in non English languages. Portuguese, German and Spanish specifically. I know a few Russian speakers (Kazakh and Kyrgyz) who have been interviewing folks in the Russian sphere about this issue too. @liaizon @dheadshot but the thing is, how do you translate such pronouns between languages? And, in Russian again, certain words, like verbs in past tense, change suffixes based on the gender: |
(yes I know this layout is too wide, I'll make it narrower someday)
