 the #fediverse is (sort of) in a Forbes article posted yesterday about @rabble and #SSB: its featuring a photo of @cwebber at #DWeb camp and includes mentions of @staltz, @manyver_se, Dominic Tarr, #Āhau, #Bluesky, #Mastodon, #ActivityStreams, Paul Frazee, and a bunch of other buzzwords that are bizarrely smashed together into an article. Still quite interesting to see this stuff in a mainstream publication. its also posted on HN: 6 comments
@humanetech this might be nice to deconstruct in a lemmy post. It makes a lot of strange assumptions about the fediverse and it might be useful to break those down to better understand how we present ourselves to the outside world. The author seemed to get confused about the federation aspect and mentioned how there were "40 mastodon social networks" The second we talk about choosing instances we confuse the hell out of a huge portion of the population. How can we solve this social issue?  I gave a kinda nice definition not so long ago, but it is lost in my timeline :( This earlier one goes in the direction, but not so well.. nice thread though.  @liaizon yeah this article tried to cover a lot of ground, and explain some details in the differences between all this stuff but its extremely confusingly written / the author seems confused?  @liaizon @rabble @cwebber @staltz @manyver_se My impression is that the corpo-media visionaries are looking for the holy grail, i.e. a social media model in which everything can still be monetised to the max but which neither users nor regulators will pick on for all the bad things that are happening today.  |
