we need semantic tagging features on the fediverse or some sort of linked data thing. if I tag a post #fediverse that tag should also seen by people following #联邦宇宙 etc

@liaizon An approach in this direction is @skohub which is based on #SKOS (which supports multilinguality) and has prototypical #ActivityPub support. (We hope to pick up development on this soon.) See e.g. our talk from #apconf2020 : blog.skohub.io/2020-10-09-skoh

@acka47 @skohub oh yes exactly! how would you imagine this working across the fediverse with tagging being attached to a semantic concept? would each tag then look up a list in a #SKOS vocabulary server and then use that to see what related concepts might be there?

@liaizon I think one would not use a free-to-choose hashtag but mention a concept from a controlled SKOS scheme published through a SkoHub. Applications could then look up and show the label in the respective language. @skohub

if the german is for "federated universe" is "föderiert universum" shouldn't the german word for fediverse be #födiversum not fediversum?

@liaizon You're right. There is no consensus yet on the German translation of “fediverse”, so most of us use the English term.

@chpietsch @liaizon yes. In german we mostly use the original english technological terms and add german grammar to it. First in everyday use, then it becomes official.

@chpietsch @liaizon easy, we will see which lasts... I think fediverse has a nicer rhythm than fediversum, and often its the tone that makes names last, not correctness of any kind.

And for the födiverse - Föderation is not a common term in german, mainly exists in political state organisation. Might not be the context to highlight. (And in swiss german Födi is a diminuitiv for arse.)

@liaizon technically, yes – föderiertes universum should contract to födiversum. but a) that sounds weird (has a hint of ödem – edema) and b) especially with proper names, just not translating and using the original has become more common.
