this seems to be a recurring occurrence, based on the cracked laptop. haha. i can't blame them, tho.

@nixCraft I can’t relate to this at all. No, not at all.

@nixCraft There is a moment when you can't believe your eyes, so you have to use diff to compare 6-letter words.

Shell :fedora: :kde:

@nixCraft nevermind, didn't put the little ( ) hands after the function begging it to run

@nixCraft I'd like to file a DCMA takedown notice. I see myself in this image and I don't like it.

@nixCraft usually I missed a semicolon or forgot to close a parantheses

@nixCraft You forgot the β€œβ€¦β€ when you stare at your screen for one hour and starts daydreaming.

@nixCraft hahaha, yes, this! I just had an engagement where after about a day of the customer trying to find the error in their WAF rules, eight people sat in a call to figure out why I cant reach the system under test. Typo in their documentation πŸ˜‚

@nixCraft

man, I've never done any professional programming, just a hobbyist

(which is a good thing for me *and* for the world πŸ˜… )

but this is the thing that has always struck me about software

showstopping errors can be so hilariously banal

@clive @nixCraft the longer it takes to track down a bug (in non-threaded settings), the more likely the fix is like a single character, some missing not or comma or maybe a pair of parentheses. Threads can have rare bugs for intrinsic reasons, so they are on a different scale. Although many solutions are just to add or removing some locking (but I am not that good at threaded envs).

@jayalane @clive @nixCraft
All bugs are shallow.
And just in case, it might be a missing await πŸ™„, in the last years

If you really want to mess with a JavaScript programmer, replace all the semicolons (;) with the Greek question mark character (ΝΎ) and watch them try to debug their code.

@nixCraft the proper technique for coding requires one to turn frustration into attention. If you can’t do that, you will not be happy. If you can, you get more and more focused till you see the problem and then become incredibly joyous and confident, happy in the universe.

Chris L

@nixCraft some developers want to turn frustration into meetings and documents. I personally find this less satisfying.

DELETED

@nixCraft i was a comma this time :ablobcatfloofpat: :blobcatsipglare:
