@mhstoixeiwmenopip @ayoub @Gargron I understand, but seeing this happening in the biggest server that the CEO owns is worrying @rzeta0 @acb @nelsonakis there not being is supposed to be the whole point of the fediverse. Yes. Small instances regularly go away when the people running them get tired of doing so, and you lose all of your old posts when you move. @richpuchalsky @rzeta0 @acb @nelsonakis the internet is ephemeral anyways. I'm on a small instance and I love it so much more than the other instance I was on. Could it one day go away? Sure. Any important post I make I usually keep in other places, and I wouldn't care to retrieve the rest of my posts, honestly the majority would be irrelevant when that happens, heck, they become irrelevant within weeks or even days. The internet moves fast, we can't cling to everything forever. @nelsonakis find a better instance! octodon.social perhaps, but there are many many options, and tell your friends @nelsonakis There is difference between the fediverse, Mastodon the software, and mastodon.social the instance. Some can be good. Some others can be bad. But kicking the whole stack because of an instance seems a bad faith argument. @nelsonakis @ayoub @Gargron As many are pointing out, Mastodon's decentralized appoach is a benefit in this case because one can post from a different instance that aligns with personal views. This is a disgrace. They took down two of my own posts previously. People have suggested it is because mastodon social is German and Germany has an irrational position on Israel. @nelsonakis @ayoub @Gargron probably some German mods that did this. They try to silence anything that's even close to being pro-palestine. Might be a good idea to switch to a server that's not located in Germany. Perhaps one day when there are international trials, those media organisations (incl mastodon instance owners) will be asked to explain their behaviour? There is precedent in the 20th century trials. And encourage everyone else who is on mastodon.social to find another instance! @nelsonakis @ayoub @Gargron I feel like far too many people, even users of years standing, don't understand what Mastodon even is. Yes, that is a shitty decision and mastodon social are past masters of those. I left that instance because I think their ways of behaving stink. But the point is mastodon social are only responsible for (and to) themselves. And every other instance is too. Don;t like them? Block them. But if you aren't even on the instance then why imagine yourself their police? @nelsonakis If you check our explore page you will see that a lot of pro-Palestinian accounts appear there regularly. We may however moderate accounts that share misinformation or use antisemitic tropes such as Holocaust inversion. @Gargron This kind of moderation needs to be more transparent, in the same way that the "Moderated servers" list is presented with info on why an instance is limited/suspended. It would be nice to see on the profile page the reasoning behind such a decision, maybe even with the user's post(s) that triggered it. @Gargron @nelsonakis @Gargron @nelsonakis reducing Holocaust inversion to an antisemitic tropes is wild https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparisons_between_Israel_and_Nazi_Germany thanks for addressing the issue Eugen i understand the reasoning for opaque mod decisions but when there is a large outcry it's prudent to identify the exact violation publicly at the very least so others may avoid the snag on contentious topics i recall a similar situation earlier this year where you spoke to the specifics of why a popular account was hidden maybe new policy exists since then so i ask mastodon.social mods: allow Eugen to relay the specifics |
@nelsonakis @ayoub @Gargron Mastodon isn't mastodon.social. But yeah that's fucked up, we need to make a big deal out of this so that the mods over there know not to fuck with human rights
