If you follow any trans people here you’ll probably see some posts about Trans Day of Remembrance today.

Like everyone, we all have special days we mark… birthdays, those of loved ones, anniversaries, graduation dates, first kiss, when we got a beloved pet.

But there are two days we in the trans community all mark.
One of them being Trans Day of Visibility in March and the other today, Trans Day of Remembrance. .

#TDoV is essentially: “Hey! Look at us. We really do exist.”
#TDoR is: “Please stop murdering us.”

There have been at least 30 trans and gender diverse people who have been killed this year. There have been too many trans people who have attempted suicide and so many who think about it constantly because local, state and federal governments actively and deliberately make it difficult for us to exist.

We need your help allies. Speak up in our defense when you can.

h/j but also not really:
Is it… is constant ideation *not* normal?

Cuz clinicians keep telling me that, but randomers IRL and online keep making grim af jokes they probably wouldn’t if they weren’t in the same boat.

@WrenArcher i saw a story earlier this morning that the total was 324 so far.

@MishaVanMollusq
That’s probably globally.

I probably should have clarified the number I saw was for the U.S. found on the Human Rights Campaign website.

@WrenArcher i think so…but after the assaults and attempted assaults reports coming my way US numbers may be twice that 3000 by year end .

@WrenArcher I am remembering my friend Stephanie. She was fired from her dream job as a high school teacher, because she was trans and one (ONE!) parent of a kid (probably not even in her class) complained. She was not allowed to see the complaint. She was despondent. We lost her, an incredible human being, because she was rejected simply for being herself, because one person wanted her to be someone else.

Enforced conformity in a society always brings death, for many more than its proponents anticipate.

I can’t help but think many proponents are aware of the effects, particularly politicians and those and leadership are high visibility roles in society.

The cruelty isn’t a bug, it’s a feature.

So sorry about your friend Stephanie. I hope she was able to find a place to land and carry on with her life and uninterrupted.

@WrenArcher It gives me a sense of ever-so-tiny achievement that I can tell my friends & colleagues are afraid of shit-talking trans people around me & incurring an epic verbal broadside; it fucking should have social consequences to be an overt dick & what little I can do in that regard, I do not with pleasure but with a sense of urgency that I cannot fathom isn't more common. This is human rights, motherfuckers - get with the program.
