I kicked the tires on Bluesky last night, and my first impression is that it looks and feels exactly like Twitter used to. And after two years away from Twitter, to me that feels like the past, not the future.

That said, I'm down with anything that gets people off of X, even if it's ultimately not for me. @jasonisaacdrums I can only urge you to take another look. I've been on there for months and I'm reminded that there was a lot of good in pre-Gamergate Twitter. But, two differences: Bluesky has a stellar blocking, easy for laypeople to handle. And they're establishing a good culture of mutual aid for marginalized folks. Assholes find it hard to thrive there. @jasonisaacdrums Unfortunately some people (i.e. my e𝕏-Twitter bubble migrating now to BS) find it a plus, as it's something familiar to them. As the famous in Poland engineer Mamoń said: I like the songs I heard before. Not to yuck on anyone’s yum, but yes. I think so, too - and am disappointed because if one chooses to change - or is forced to - at least change to something *better*. |
