War and Peas 🧿

Alright, so yesterday’s post somehow managed to make a few people angry on social media. And here’s the thing: we get it. We totally understand that not everyone has the budget to support an artist’s work, especially a stranger's. Not everyone’s in a position to toss a few bucks our way just because we happen to be trying to do something as irrelevant as funny comics. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea; we understand that we may occupy a highly specific niche that some people view as optional.

But we need to make a living. It's not a side gig or a “let’s see where it goes” experiment. This is our main source of income, and that’s why we ask for support via Patreon. It’s not about guilt or entitlement – it’s simply logistics. Whether you choose to care or not is entirely up to you. If you’re not in a place to contribute right now, we’re not resentful or the slightest bit upset.

But, by the same token, if you see us making the ask, please don’t misinterpret it as anything other than what it is: two people with rent and grocery bills, just trying to sustain a livelihood in the way we know best.

And hey, even a like or a nice comment on social media – something that’s super helpful – is no small thing.

Maybe you’re still upset, maybe you really want to kick us in the face and you do get the chance. Jonathan is going to Vienna Comic Con this month and you can meet him there and tell him he’s awful. Sarah Andersen is also coming – and she’s the sweetest person so please only be mean to Jonathan.

Ok, talk soon!–Elizabeth & Jonathan

@warandpeas I'm only upset that your comics don't show enough nudity. But of course that's what I say to absolutely everybody (gets kind of awkward).

@warandpeas I have many personal experience feelings on this, which I am currently screaming into a pillow. I enjoy your comics; I pay so they don’t stop being made.

@warandpeas I don't think people should be mean to y'all either, but yeah no one be mean to Sarah Andersen.

@warandpeas i will not rest until you sell the insecurity sweater in large :)

@warandpeas Ugh, people 🙄

Honestly, I know the patreon probably brings home more bread but I'd push the books more at the moment. Tis the splurging season after all.

@warandpeas The only thing I missed in yesterday's post is a 3rd option for: I'm totally obsessed with your merch and order every few months. (I know subscriptions are better for financial planning, but I hope buying prints and merch is also a good support.) Love your style and humor!

@warandpeas many of the Patreons I've joined are for comics. You're on the to-join list still, but it'll happen.

@warandpeas As an artist I understand your position very well. I never could make money out of my stuff and people may always remix my stuff cause of the chosen creative commons licence. The reason I can do my stuff is because of my dayjob. So it's always okay to remember people which make more money they need to live to pay the artists they consume for free, so other people without the money may also see the work of the artists.

@warandpeas, haters will hate. The way I see it, you're basically reminding people that you have a tip jar. I can't see anything wrong with that whatsoever.

@warandpeas on the plus side, I thought it was fucking hilarious, am now following, planning to look at the other stuff, and there's always Patreon.
