@molly0xfff @smalls @dannycolin Just going leave this video here of scientists examining the vocal cords of the lead singer of Lorna Shore, for anyone who wants to fall down a wild rabbit hole. @bcdavid @molly0xfff @smalls Ah! I didn't know their logo but I actually learned a bit about them from The Charismatic Voice's interview video with Ramos. :) @molly0xfff that is such a masterful poweful hopeful talk. I want everyone to listen to it. thank you! @molly0xfff Great talk! I never made it to XOXO but I'm awfully glad this was part of the last round. @molly0xfff @molly0xfff i couldn't get the link to open on Mastodon official app. Heres the link for anyone who needs it: @molly0xfff Excellent talk. Perfectly articulates so many feelings I have about the internet as it is today. @molly0xfff “Play the computer”! This is such a cool way to think about it, like you play an instrument. You’re creating something with it, but it’s also play. @molly0xfff problem that even if you have means to do something on web against those multibillion dollar companies, web is still accessed by their devices and browsers, they still impose standards how you develop and what can you develop. @molly0xfff I really love this talk and what you are doing. The irony for me, when I look back at that "the web is magic" moment, it was a demo given by this grad student in 1993, named Marc Andreessen at the NCSA. I went on to become a web developer in 1995 and I think that most of my work, over the decades, has been contra to the great corporate enclosure of the web. Still doing web dev today, running my own blogs and hoping for a small return to that magic. Thanks! @molly0xfff thank you so much for sharing! The talk was great! The Internet was more exciting then than now. And enshittiifcation is taking all that is left now. Especially disappointing for what is happening with Mozilla lately. @molly0xfff I love the idea of reviving the old spirit of the web. And that younger generations get what was great about it. Just recently saw this video by a Gen-Z'er promoting the idea of making home-pages. But we'll need new tech to help us connect and find each other ... the good old "web-rings" won't do it anymore. :blobfoxlaughsweat: @molly0xfff great talk, and made me realize how young you are! Your experience as a preteen discovering the Internet just by reading makes me go back to talk to my kids in English. They are 5 and 7, and I used to speak to them almost 100% in English until 4ya. The reason I stopped is complicated, but mostly: I'm not a native speaker. This will stretch my patience limit because everything will be slower for a great while, but I think it's worth it. I hope my kids discover the same web you did. |
