I asked ChatGPT how to wire a standard UK plug using the new canvas feature...

@jonm @iolo @davey_cakes I think "blive" was the only correct thing on the whole picture. @iolo You want wires?? We got blive wires, we got breen, ghost, yeutral, all the wires of the rainbow @hyperlinkyourheart @iolo Ah, so โto blaveโ is to bluff, and โto bliveโ is to shock? @iolo @guigsy @iolo There are about 8 billion people on the planet, give or take. What proportion of them are in a position to understand AI to the point that they even know there *are* limitations, especially given the intensely dishonest marketing its proponents push it with? People are going to die over this foul technology, whether from eating toxic mushrooms because a book someone "wrote" with degenerative AI hallucinated toxic mushrooms into edible ones, or because people wire up plugs wrong. @zdl @iolo I completely agree. And what's worse is investors pumping vast amounts of money into generative AI without understanding the basics of how it does what it does. Or they do understand, but they're just riding the wave out of greed. At least the NFT bubble only lost money. This will cost jobs, devalue all information and yes, potentially cost lives. @guigsy @zdl @iolo whats far more worrying is there seem to be many business owners/executives who are at least smart enough to remove the obvious crap/hallucinations, but are already using AI art to eliminate jobs for entry level graphic designers, content writers and even human models (saw an advert for mobile phone / fitness tracker kit and the unusually perfect looking "mixed race" lass modelling them looks suspiciously like she is AI generated) @vfrmedia @zdl @iolo replacing artists, actors and models with AI is a moral choice that's influenced by cost. It's a different issue from presenting information that's factually incorrect. And that there should be AI tools to generate information that it's likely to be factually flawed because we know that it will be published without being validated. the risk of misidentifying poison mushrooms due to AI is a real danger. Miswired electric wiring schemes less so, as there is much more reliable information on these available by conventional means (in UK we are often taught the correct wiring colours in high school). Its going to be a further dilemma for Communications Ministries worldwide to balance allowing free expression with clamping down on dangerous misinformation (from AI or any other source) @iolo Iโm particularly fond of the wire that changes colorโฆ twice. LoL @Pineywoozle @iolo At least anyone trying to wire a plug like this isn't going to get far enough to do any harm. @petealexharris @iolo Youโre assuming theyโll follow it even half way correctly. ๐ Silly you. At least with a legit starting point they stand a chance. @Pineywoozle @petealexharris @iolo At some point they're going to wonder where the other pin is. @iolo I guess it's more humanitarian to dunk on an artificial idiot... not super environmentally friendly though. That looks more complex than when I last wired a plug in the UK. Probably, 30 years ago! I think I was about 5 years old when my Dad started to teach me this stuff. I remember him using silver foil to make connections too. ๐ณ It is just a little bit wrong so don't worry. Plugs are still the same as when you last wired a plug. Impressed that you were taught how to do this at 5 though. @iolo I think we should use this plug and wiring for all GPUs being used to enable these hallucinations. @iolo Iโm pretty sure the blive doesnโt go there - is AI trying to kill electricians? @iolo To be fair, that is how many people see it when they open a plug up - random, incomprehensible chaos. Looks like I'm out of a job. This is just weeks away from replacing human knowledge, and reasoning, and a basic electrical book. @iolo@mastodon.ie Looks like a portable Time Machine โ:floof_peek:โ @iolo It's a gift that keeps on giving, the longer you stare the more wrong things you find lmao @iolo There's labels scattered around the plug, but they do not point to individual components or label anything in particular." |
