You've probably heard that Paypal will start selling your personal data in November. Opt-out by turning it off:

In the EU, I found it under Settings > Data & Privacy > Interest-based marketing.

Elsewhere it has been found under Settings > Data & Privacy > PayPal Shopping or Settings > Data & Privacy > Manage shared info > Personalized shopping.

@e_eric is there any service which won’t do such shit?

Thankfully I already had them deactivated. I think. I very much dislike that Android slider UI, I want my checkboxen back.

@mirabilos
I do expect _free_ services to do this. Less so a fintech company that I pay with commissions. But you're right, everybody else is doing it so why not? 🤬

Oh. It worked for me in the browser. Maybe it's a territory thing?

@e_eric so much for "if you're in the EU you don't have to worry, that's already illegal there" from another post about this. I knew it.

@e_eric Can't find it on the desktop or mobile pages/app (in Canada)

@e_eric

But the EU has no "Opt out".
The @EUCommission demands opt in.
So, this is probably illegal.
On the other hand @EC_Commissioner_Breton highlighted that the EU currently is a "questionable governance" …

@sl007 If you use #PayPal, you consent to extensive data transfers for marketing and other purposes: paypal.com/ie/legalhub/third-p
incl. passport ID, date of birth, IMEI etc.

The decision now only relates to whether or not you are *shown* personalised advertising.
PayPal does not start selling your personal data now, this has been their business model for a long time.
