@gerrymcgovern I wonder how we avoided this issue with cochlear implants? They're similar in the sense of being devices that are manufactured privately, that people rely on, and in sure various manufacturers have gone under over the years, but I've never heard of someone being unable to get their cochlear implant fixed.

Might be a useful model to regulate the industry.
