Every time a zoologically-named package updates on my #Linux or #FreeBSD box, I brace myself for the delightful chaos of the software jungle. Will it be a majestic new feature or a bug that bites?

The screenshot shows the FreeBSD pkg command upgrading a bunch of packages, including dog (a DNS client) and bat (a 'cat' command clone with fancy features).

@nixCraft just how old is this screenshot, because you had me stupified at the prospect of an update to dog

@nixCraft
I would also consider Python a zoological name

@nixCraft i volunteer at a music festival. Most of our internally developed systems are animally named. We have dog, cat, mouse, zebra and worm. All are relevant acronyms. 🤓

@nixCraft I see at least three zoologically named packages, you definitely have a fun night ahead

Is not a feature, neither a bug; just small non functional or not lethal mutation.

Cogito ergo mecagoendios

@nixCraft speaking of animal names, I can't seem to find package python3-numba on Noble Numbat and this combination of strings is being frustratingly difficult to Google for
