Warmest Regards, -Chilly" @chillybot @hacks4pancakes Waaazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhpppppppppppppp!?!1? -Rabbit” @chillybot @rabbit @hacks4pancakes My Deerist Rabit: Hope finds you weal. I lawyer with Smith & co from Canada. You are named soul error of Ms Green whom has gifted you $3 million in estate. Contact to confirm delivery of estate. @mreeder @chillybot @hacks4pancakes Wow, that's the third time today! I should put you in touch with the Nigerian lawyer who is also settling an estate for me. You can collaborate. @rabbit @chillybot @hacks4pancakes Rabit, KNOW!! That lawyer fraud! Contakt mee for setlmend! I knows his work very bad. @rabbit @hacks4pancakes I bought someone's discography on bandcamp and they DM'd me to say thanks, which showed up as an email from bandcamp does that count @rabbit @hacks4pancakes otherwise I don't know what the last email from an actual person I got would be (outside work) @hacks4pancakes I'm missing the: @hacks4pancakes Email was useful back when the internet was mainly good. Today, email is bloated. Mostly spam, scam and newsletters. And it is not secure. Most people still ignore the need to encrypt mails. Because it's more convenient not to consider that someone else could read the mails than using encryption. Not to mention encrypted storage on mailservers. @doerk @hacks4pancakes I was sending a digitally signed purchase order in a digitally signed email to the official distributor of the company everyone uses for those kinds of fittings. Their email configuration couldn't handle it, replacing my whole email with a smime.p7m file, and I had to send it again with signing disabled... @pkraus @hacks4pancakes That‘s not unusual. Most people don’t know how to handle signatures and keys. That’s the reason why most emails are still sent unencrypted. @doerk @hacks4pancakes yea - at rest encryption for mail would be nice.... Also, as a nerd, I'd love some sort of easy re-encryptor for pgp mails. So when I change my key I wouldn't have to keep the old one around (if I remember correct, PGP signs then encrypts mails so could re-encrypt with a new key without breaking signatures... If memory serves). Yes, that’s one issue with PGP. Another is that subject is not encrypted. Email was never designed to be secure and PGP is just an addon, trying to make it more secure. For secure communication I recommend a messenger (definitely not Telegram), but messenger are another type of communication. In business context, email is most common, even though in business communication security should have highest priority. @hacks4pancakes The funniest part is how emails look when you don't load all the external content 😂 @kluthulhu @hacks4pancakes Well, as for me, I almost forgot how an email would look if all the external content was loaded. I turned it off for default view. Some emails don't even have any meaningful text in them, I simply delete those. @jdoe @hacks4pancakes Oh, same here. @kluthulhu @hacks4pancakes Ah, corpo. Nope, not my asset on not my device. Therefore not my security. I don't care, it's not my email. @m @hacks4pancakes @morb @hacks4pancakes Forward this email IMMEDIATELY or 30 of your CLOSEST family members will DIE in a ~~~FiErY cAr CrAsH~~~ @hacks4pancakes ...and then it's 30 emails a week from various "marketing agencies" (aka spammers) that *somehow* got their hands on BONTO!'s account information. @hacks4pancakes “We regret to inform you that BONTO! has suffered a data breach.” @hacks4pancakes It's weird when nostalgia twists shitty phishing scams and repeatedly forwarded chain emails into something we'd prefer. @hacks4pancakes I still get a lot of value out of some newsletters and groups, but I fear these too are going away. @hacks4pancakes Man I miss Slorp. It all went wrong with BONTO! The ui and care for the all us Slorp goblins just wasn't the same. @hacks4pancakes They forgot the “New login detected. Was this you?” and “$MONTH_NAME Update: Now with feature you did NOT ask for!” emails 😂 @hacks4pancakes I laughed so hard at the "BONTO misses you” into “BONTO is shutting down” 😂 There’s a little dose of guilt hiding there in plain sight: ifwe had just given BONTO a bit more attention they wouldn't have shutdown. Truth. I get 40 or more emails a day, two of which are personal. The others go to the junk folder. Email is no longer cool. Now everyone wants to text you ... at all hours. @zachvat @hacks4pancakes Yeah the only thing worse than my email inbox is my SMSes (and my app notifications have now started advertising at me) We are thrilled to announce the launch of BONTWO! with the backing of a $100MM seed round from our partners Sequoia Capital and Dragonfly. The original team behind BONTO! is back in BONTWO! building an AI-controlled VR / metaverse blockchain gaming platform, integrated with the $SLORP token on Solana. Pre-order now for a 10x $SLORP points multiplier. [phishing link] Seriously. University of Maryland did me one better. For some reason I actually bothered to open an envelope from an unknown party that looked exactly like junk mail. Apparently U of M subcontracted out the mass mailer to tell me of the major medical data breach and offer me free credit monitoring. Points for stealth. @hacks4pancakes Weird. Two of my closest friends in high school had the last names of “Slorp" and “Bonto”. I feel called out. @hacks4pancakes #progress #technology #tech #development #hardware #software #softwareDevelopment #ui #ux #ethics #informationTechnology #internet #enshittification @hacks4pancakes needs one more line * 300k emails, personal data, passwords leaked in BONTO database breach @hacks4pancakes I'm just glad to see that all those strangers worried about my ability to get/maintain an erection are back to sending me offers of help. They disappeared for a while, right about the time all those people were so worried about my vehicle registration. They're back now, though. @hacks4pancakes you can just use @delta - than email got a whole new meaning and make other messenger apps obsolete.. @cccfr @hacks4pancakes @delta @fuzzle I was just about ask what could be a good decentralized alternative for email. @fst @hacks4pancakes @delta @fuzzle depends totally on your goal and the willingness of your communication partners to follow along @hacks4pancakes Bonto regrets to inform you that we have experienced a breach in 2020 in which your personal information may have been compromised. @hacks4pancakes Oho! Somebody does not know #deltachat – a modern messenger that runs on good old email. If email gives you great 90's vibes you'll be impressed what it can do now. Not even kidding. @retrosponge @hacks4pancakes I hope this is far enough down the replies I can link @Smingleigh without causing trouble @hacks4pancakes I hope this push society back to use snail Mail when sending letter/cards. @hacks4pancakes Somehow--I've always known to never open mail from 'Any unexpecteds--Like Junk mail--same thing--don't waste your time! Agreed email had its day. Time to move everyone over to move on to ecryptied IM messaging @hacks4pancakes It used to be that the only person who would call me on my landline was my grandmother. Similarly, now the only person who will email me is my mother. @hacks4pancakes so fecking true, and this is why I refuse to register any new accounts! @hacks4pancakes Very true. Emails = dread and repulsion for me now. Probably for a number of reasons, but this is one of them |
@hacks4pancakes Its been a very long time since I’ve received an email from an actual person outside of work.
