This is what a peaceful transfer of power looks like in a truly civilized country.

"After the Netherlands swore in its new government, the Prime Minister of fourteen years left office on a bicycle."

@sonjdol @HalfHeartedFanatic @notjustbikes the "peaceful transfer of power" is a bit less endearing when you consider the new prime minister is a nazi enabler presiding over a nazi government :c

@HalfHeartedFanatic
With Netherlands, I often think: politics by people for people.

@HalfHeartedFanatic Rutte's thinking, "damned tourists walking in the bike lane 😡".

@HalfHeartedFanatic @notjustbikes speaking as a Dutch person, if it was a truly civilized country then there would not be a transfer of power to the far right

@eniko @notjustbikes Speaking as an American, who is facing the prospect that Joe Biden (in the event he loses the election) will probably peacefully hand over power to a wanna-be dictator, I empathize. I can't say I know much about Dutch democracy, but I do know that The Netherlands is ranked as the 9th strongest democracy in the world. The USA is ranked the 29th. I feel more confident that the Dutch can turn this around. Not confident at all that the Americans will be able to if Trump wins.

"Transfer of power" might be a bit of an overstatement for a country with fewer people than the state of New York.

Rutte will arguably have more power in his new job at NATO.
