The windows behind everything might be "focus stealing prevention", i know it is called that on KDE, the worst possible description for it.
I haven't used gnome in a bit for anything but playing around with breezy so I don't know the specifics there though
@NireBryce @mcc Yep, it’s that. IIRC all that’s required to fix it is that a timestamp is propagated through to say ‘I’m opening this window because of this user interaction’, which of course means it’s doomed to basically always break in weird ways because nobody will ever remember to do that
