When y'all type, which shift keys do you use?

(Pls repost for larger sample size, I need to know if I'm the weirdo here)

@qristy I clicked "left shift only" and then went to type a response and noticed that I do use right shift and am an absolutely filthy liar!! So clearly my answer is "either one, depending" but I didn't consciously realize it

@qristy left hand has shift duty, right hand gets priority access to space bar.

@qristy My laptop's right shift key isn't *as* worn down as my left one. So apparently, I'm using both, but tend to use mostly the left one.¹ With the space bar, it's the opposite—the right side shows more wear. I'm right-handed.

¹ Are there statistics on how much faster shift keys on German keyboards wear out compared to other languages' keyboards?

@qristy I'm going to scar your mind forever and tell you what the kids these days are doing...

They don't use the shift key. They hit caps lock, then hit the key, then hit caps lock again. 😭😫😭😫😭

This behavior absolutely *baffled* me. Until I realized they are emulating how mobile keyboards work. But it still makes me die inside every time I see it happen.

@MBoffin we have failed the next generation

@qristy I use both, but the left one on my work keyboard is almost completely rubbed off, there's like a quarter of an "S" left.

Deborah Makarios

@qristy Left shift for capitalizing letters typed with the right hand, and vice versa.

AkhIL

@qristy It is simple:
* Left mod keys to modify keys pressed by right hand;
* Right mod keys to modify keys pressed by left hand.
