Inkscape

We are currently developing import functions for #Affinity Designer & Adobe #Illustrator files.

Would you like to help? 🀝

Donate your files (.ai or .afdesign) until the 19th here:
office.inkscape.org/nextcloud/

⚠️ Only upload files for which you own the rights. ⚠️

They will be used for #Inkscape development by the project's contributors and will not be published.

Files symbolized by little paper leaf icons flying towards a big Inkscape icon.

@inkscape any particular Affinity feature that you would like to test?

Jonathan Neuhauser

@lazza @inkscape we’re mostly interested in the features that are important to you! Older files also help.

@lazza @inkscape I can also provide .afdesign files. Let us know what you want in them!

@inkscape I have no files of any kind but i hope you succeed on developing those functions.

@inkscape Oooh, that's amazing! I've come across a few specific problems when importing/opening .ai files with Inkscape again and again. Is there a place where I could discuss these issues?

Jonathan Neuhauser

@jfml @inkscape Inkscape.org/report.

But to dampen the expectations here, the issues you encounter are probably deeply routed in how the ai import currently works. Inkscape exploits that the ai file has pdf preview and opens that, with all limitations of pdf editing, and all the information that was lost.
This is what we want to change: read the _actual_ data of the ai file in order to retain high level editing information. Contributors welcome!

@inkscape Just uploaded a couple of old Illustrator files I created before switching over to Inkscape a few years back. This feature is something that I'm actually quite excited for.
