"The Verge and 404 Media are building out new functions that would allow them to distribute posts on their sites and on federated platforms – like Threads, Mastodon and Bluesky – at the same time. Replies to those posts on those platforms become comments on their sites."

If you're not looking at @theverge and @404mediaco as social web platforms that are hosting hand-picked content creators with a publisher's infrastructure, you're not paying attention. #Fediverse

Very interesting, within the scope of the federation, which I am following with interest regarding Flipboard and Fediverse. I can't say the same thing for Threads, because I don't know if they will ever allow us Europeans to try their federation (too bad it is so, a bit discriminatory)...

I will be following these new features of The Verge and 404 Media with interest. Thanks

@salvomic Threads will be expanding Federation to the EU! They're currently in the first phase which is one-way, one region. Second phase, IIRC, will be two-way and more regions.

Well, I hope so, it will be interesting and I hope this will happen very soon.

The federation is really a new way of using social media, very promising, in my opinion.

awesome. we have to stop thinking about the fedi as a bunch of decentralized alternatives to the closed platforms, but AP as a social layer on top of the open web. that's where we become a threat to the vulture capitalists. the next step is to integrate the comment handling of lemmy/kbin/reddit. mastodon should do this too.

There should also be a focus on adding that layer to pre-existing projects. If there is a plugin setup and a project doesn't have an ActivityPub module we should try and make one. I am adding it to Drupal Projects that don't necessarily have Mastodon servers with them.

@pkreissel Couldn't agree more. I get so giddy when I see publishers endorsing the #Fediverse like this.
