@afewbugs Not everyone has machines already at home that are this compatible and daily-drivable with Linux, and not everyone has the technical knowhow, confidence or time and patience to troubleshoot any issues they may have.
This makes it sound like Linux is some kind of desaster, but that is about as inaccurate to say as that it's gotten good enough that the average Jo can just install it and expect zero issues.
The truth lies somewhere in-between, and highly depends on the hardware.
@afewbugs And frankly, while I would love it if we collectively ditched Windows and all switched over to Linux, I think it's just currently not realistic. For that, purebred native Linux machines need to become a lot more common. Machines where the manufacturer went through the trouble of ensuring that the machine runs on a mainstream distribution with little to no adjustments using the mainline kernel.
