 The French government has banned TikTok in New Caledonia following pro-independence protests. When asked about the legality of the measure, it basically replied that since the territory is not subject to the EU’s jurisdiction, it’s perfectly allowed to ban social platforms however it likes. US congress banned tiktok, is has 1 year to comply, about 11 months left. The EU complained about Twitter already. The government is exploiting a provision in the state of emergency law, which states: “The Minister of the Interior may take any measures necessary to ensure the interruption of any online public communication service that incites to commit acts of terrorism or glorifies such acts.”
