 @ajroach42 How's your C++, technical writing, and general electronics knowledge? Does https://www.ngscopeclient.org/ seem like something you'd be a good fit for? I have a long list of wishlist items I'm too busy to work on and will gladly throw some budget at someone willing to spend time on it. @ajroach42 In particular, there are literally hundreds of pages of documentation that needs to be written for various processing blocks. @azonenberg My C++ is basically non-existent. I've dipped my toe, mostly for embedded work, but at the very beginning of my career. I'm sure it's something I could get back up to speed on, but I'm probably not the right person for a heavy c++ project. General electronics is fair to good, and I've worked as a technical writer in the past, but it's a few steps out of my core. Happy to discuss the project further, or to shop it to some other folks who I think might be more well suited. @ajroach42 Basically, for each of ~100 processing blocks (or as many as we have time/budget for): * Get a screenshot of it in use in the waveform viewer * Get a screenshot of it in use in the filter graph editor * Document all of the inputs and outputs * Write a paragraph or two about what it does at a high level @ajroach42 Check out the "filters" section in here https://www.ngscopeclient.org/downloads/ngscopeclient-manual.pdf The first dozen or so alphabetically are fairly well developed and are a good benchmark for what the rest should look like. Note the remaining 100+ are a sentence or two, if that. This needs to change before a full release. @azonenberg I suspect I have the perfect candidate for you. I'll will forward him this thread, and follow up if he is interested. I'm also available for non-computer consulting. I didn't get in to that much, but I've designed and manufactured speakers, I've made toys in resin and from recycled milk jugs. I'm a coffee roaster. I can teach you how to bind books, or consult on ... whatever. I can do training, technical writing, or even tech support on a wide number of topics. If it's out of my wheelhouse, I'll do my best to point you towards someone who can help. @ajroach42 If you're actively looking work on the corporate side of things, more about that on the Work page would help. Or alternately, build out the last sentence in the first paragraph on the "About Me" page. Even if it's just a single line or (ugh, I know) forward to a LinkedIn profile or equivalent. To my reading, either would help in terms of establishing scope past "I've done large-scale things and know what I'm doing." That part is clear, the "ok, but in what forest" part, less so. @poiseunderchaos I *really* don't want to do tech industry work again. But a link to a resume or a linkedin profile ain't a bad idea. @ajroach42 Finding the right balance is a challenge, I find! I mean, I can do all sorts of things, especially on the tech writing slash information architecture slash front end coding and UI/UX end of things, but how to say that without sounding like a breathing servomechanism...well. @poiseunderchaos I tossed a linkedin link around "I've managed teams of dozens to maintain infrastructure serving tens of millions for companies valued at tens of billions." @ajroach42 Perfect. I'm not on there much these days, but it's clear well enough from the other side of the walled garden. *nods* |
This will be the home of my soon to be returning Impractical Computing zine.
It will also be the home of the Impractical Computing web series, if I ever make that.
In the meantime, it's a great way to see a showcase of the kinds of projects that I've worked on in the recent past, and to get an idea of the kind of work I'm willing to do.
