I get sad when I find a cool tech person online and find out they don't use Mastodon

Reminds me of being a kid and meeting a friend at camp or something. I'd ask if they have an AIM screen name, find out they don't, and then I don't think I ever heard what they said next because I walked away.

Andrew, was kinda the same with ICQ numbers and VKontakte profiles for me. The weirdos who refuse to use the internet for communication! Like dude, what am I supposed to do, call you on your landline?!

@ambrwlsn I get even more sad if I discover they are still using X

Then I get mad when they try to justify it as “but that’s where the tech conversations still are”

@a11yMel @ambrwlsn or even worse - BACK to using X, like most of the video editing community.

@ambrwlsn But that’s your chance to invite them to the clubhouse!

@ambrwlsn @lisamelton Then are they *really* a cool tech person? (Unless they’re SO cool they use no social media at all… but uncool people being allowed to make the social rules has cruelly made that untenable.)

@ambrwlsn Most cool tech people I know use Mastodon. I myself, however, am not that much of a cool tech person, and neither are most of my friends online, so we're stuck to be using Xitter
