Late #Caturday post as I return to one reality from another. My buddy Pip greeted me warmly upon my arrivalβ¦ is what I would like to say. Instead, he showed no interest. THEYβRE EATING! THE PETS!!! Homerβs current morning nap spot is the head of the bed on his mamaβs side. For being as fluffy as he is, heβs always seeking warmth and does not enjoy the cooldown in the weather as we enter autumn. Sometimes when Homer gets restless, I hold him, and he becomes extremely restful for, like, five minutes before remembering what he originally wanted. Pip patiently waits for his food dish to come to him. Magically, I guess. He does glance at me when he sees Iβm not moving, but his signal for food seems to be staring straightforward. Harley letting his head hang on a warm summer day. Lazy summer days out here with the cats. They do often take breaks indoors in the afternoon, but some days, Homer and the gang nap in the heat until dinner time. When summer rain bursts hit, Pip manages to keep dry better than the other cats. From whatever safe spot he found, he emerges completely dry after the rainβ¦ and then he will lie on a cushion thatβs still wet. π€·π»ββοΈ A week after the fireworks of July 4 have subsided, the cats are still staying indoors at night, now more for comfort than security. Homer has been napping outside after it warmed up, but he took an indoor break after an all-night rain. Pip is never more still than when heβs sitting at the door waiting for his food to come to him. βIs my dish in its normal place? Cool. Iβll wait here for you to bring it.β After returning from my long weekend with my cousinβs family (and our family), my cats were, as you can see, thrilled to welcome me back. Not actually one of the #CatsOfSumocat, Mitzi is my cousinβs cat and is not exactly pleased to be surrounded by new people, but sheβs not afraid either. Once you start feeding the strays, they learn to demand food. This squirrel knows that I will show up to let the cats in and toss a peanut to get rid of him. Feral tuxedo cat Harley has no problem catching voles, chipmunks, and birds, but none of our cats have been tough enough to mess with these squirrels. Changing up our color palette with our gray son, Grayson, looking up at the great sun. Updated my iPad wallpaper to this glam shot of Pip. His eyes peer between the widgets. Caught Pip in his morning grooming ritual when I woke up. Throwback photo of our first three cats co-existing peacefully in the same space. When I went out on eclipse day, Homer was curled up on the deck, a sliver of sunlight on his back, doing an impression of the coming partial solar eclipse. Normally when Pip naps on our bed in the morning, he does so without alerting me. But the past few weeks, when I catch him, Iβve been head nudging him, rubbing my chin against his head, getting him to enjoy mornings with me. That effort paid off today when he started kneading next to me. After head nudging, he curled up on top of me for a few minutes of his morning nap. |
